In 1988, skinheads murdered an Ethiopian immigrant in Portland. There are important lessons to learn from what happened on that terrible day, reminders that the hate we are witnessing now is not new. Nor is the commitment to challenge and fight that hate.
Words like crazy, deranged, nuts, etc, are demeaning & dehumanizing. They hide the real issues of mental health behind big, ugly words that make the speakers (and many listeners) feel better about themselves but do nothing about those whose humanity is dismissed with a word or two. This must end.
Class politics versus identity politics? That's a losing strategy. And an unnecessary obstacle. The Democratic Party is big enough and strong enough to address the broad range of political issues and political approaches needed to govern a diverse nation.
